Usinng variables on the test case
Padawan Beiträge: 26 Beitrittsdatum: 05.04.12 Neueste Beiträge
Hi,
I need to know if klaros support a features.
Is it possible to use variables?
I mean:
- Test case 1, step 1 description: Insert the value :number
- Under test run: The software ask the value of :number
On the test report It's possible to see the data set used in that particularly test suite.
Is there this useful features?
Thanks.

sorry, this is currently not supported.
I wonder what would be the use case for this? What should happen with the value the tester entered after this?
Regards,
Torsten

Sometimes the same test suite is excecuted again and again.
Variables enable the tester to give a general definition of the test set to use.
Under the test run the system should ask the value of the variables to use.
Key point:
- don't use the same data set for the same test
- track the data set used
- In the case of failure have the data set stored to easly explain to the developer the iusse
- on the test report It's possible to see the data set used
- Few test case to write
All the test management framework use this metodology.
Without this features we can't adopt Klaros.
Thanks.

This can already be achieved by attaching the test data to the test case and storing the used data (or data set id) along with the test case result entry.
What are you missing in this?

Yes but It's not useful. An attachment it's static and not printable on the report and serchable.
Dinamically I need to set my test data.
The test have to be general, and under the test run set the test data.

I finally see what you are expecting, this would definitely come in handy. This also has been requested in the past.
We already have been tracking this as feature request KLAROS-1041, I will add this on our tentative roadmap for version 3.7.
Do not hold your breath for this to be supported in the community edition though.
Regards,
Torsten

We like to keep releases in a rough quarterly cycle with interim maintenance releases as required.
Klaros 3.6 is scheduled for start of May, so you may expect 3.7 approx. 2-3 months later (Jul-Aug).
